Dear Families
We understand that the Volusia District has sent out the three (3) options they are offering for the 2020- 2021 school year. Please see below our Academy’s options for the upcoming school year. We would like to invite you to an informational meeting on Tuesday, July 28 th at 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. to get more specific details about each. We encourage you to come to this adult only meeting (due to social distancing and safety concerns) to see what we have done to ensure that our school facility is ready for your student to return safely and protected. Please click HERE for our COVID-19 Plan.

We look forward to meeting and discussing our plan and bringing our Reading Edge Academy family together again. It has been too long.

Reading Edge Academy is actively preparing for the start of school.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Reading Edge Academy, Inc. Governing Board has voted to delay the start of the student’s school year to Monday, Aug. 31, 2020. The Board has approved an innovative fall reopening plan with safety measures in place and options for families and teachers.

The Learnings Options are summarized below. To help your school properly plan, parents and guardians who are considering Option two (2) are asked to inform the school of your choice by Monday, August 10, 2020.
We will remain flexible as possible and will adapt as needed to make 2020-2021 a successful year! We invite our students, parents, teachers, staff and community partners to work together with us as a team to create life-long learners prepared for an ever-changing global society. Together, WE ARE STRONGER!
1. Traditional Classroom Setting (as directed by FLDOE) with Health and Safety Guidelines in place. Students will be in school five days a week, as directed by the Florida Department of Education, with health and safety guidelines in place.
2. Reading Edge Academy/Samsula Academy Live (real-time streaming)
Students will remain at home but follow the same daily class schedule as their classmates who are in traditional school. Students will participate in classroom instruction by logging in on a device, and engaging with their teacher and classmates virtually, by using the platform Google Classroom (real- time live streaming with a personal Google e-mail account provided by the school). These students are expected to log in and out on time for class every day, 7:50 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. They are also expected to engage in classroom activities. Attendance will be taken. This allows to participate in the classrooms lessons/activities without physically being present.
3. Enhanced Volusia Online Learning
This is an at-your-own pace, virtual option that has been available to VCS students for years. Volusia County provides instruction in flexible formats. There is not a set schedule. Extra-curricular activities and clubs are available. Enrollment ends July 31, 2020. Please visit for more information. If this option is chosen, you are no longer enrolled in your school of choice. When the pandemic is over or you decide to have your child return to school it will be your Zoned Volusia County School, not our charter school. With this choice our academics will lose funding to operate. So please make an informed decision.
Please contact your charter school for specific information about these choices and how we can better assist you and your family.

Parent Responsibility
We need your help in keeping all our students, families and staff healthy!
Before leaving the home, please ensure your student does not have a temperature or is not displaying symptoms of illness (fever, cough, etc). Students will have their temperature taken as they exit the car and must remain with their vehicle, if their temperature exceeds 100.3., the student will get back into the vehicle. Students that are sick or have a fever shall stay home and see their family medical provider before returning to school.
Please keep your child home if they had close contact with someone positive for COVID-19.
Please make sure your student brings their face mask (no buffs) daily.
Please encourage frequent hand washing/sanitizing and social distancing whenever possible as this will be expected while at school.
Please update contact information as often as necessary and have a plan to pick up your student immediately if you are called due to illness.
Please note that you will be contacted by your student’s school if the student displays symptoms that would require them to be picked up from school.
Unfortunately, this year food of any kind may not be brought to school for sharing for birthdays or other celebrations.
